I QUIT!!! I've tried for weeks now, I've perservered but I'm giving up...

Bonnie K Hunter is a person I really admire, I have made 6 or 8 of her fabulously designed and mostly Mystery Quilts.  Bonnie is very generous, once a year she puts up on her website a Mystery Quilt.  First of all she tells us why she has decided on the name for this Mystery... the latest one is called Grand Illusions after a hotel she stayed in last May called the GRAND HOTEL on Mackinac Island, Michigan! Check it out here...http://www.grandhotel.com/

Check out Bonnies Introduction... Here...
You can see her photos and why she chose the fabrics she chose for her quilt.

Then each week she puts up on her Site Part 1 through to Part 6 and the final layout.  Great fun it is.

So I did Part 1 - which was 280 triangle squares made into 100 Broken Dish blocks with 80 triangle squares left over.

I made Part 2 - 100 Double Diamond Blocks

I  started... Part 3 - 120 8x2" blocks... I was way behind by this time, Bonnie does put her Mystery's out over Christmas which is not a good time to sew for me... but I was really excited about making this quilt as so many SCQuilter friends were making it and heaps of the Blue Gum Quilters as well...

Then I saw the finished product! See below...

I am afraid I can't cope with the busyness of this quilt, my head just can't get around it!  This is the very first Bonnie Mystery I've started making, that gave me a headache... but I wasn't going to be daunted so I finished off Part 2 and Part 3 and tried putting blocks together.... eeeeeekkkkkk!!  So I tried putting plain centres in the middle of the blocks but eeeeekkkkk...  So... I've just packed up my blocks and will do something a lot simpler than Bonnie's Grand Illusions at a later date.

Now I'm going to really concentrate on Brenda's Churn Dash Challenge... really I am... I really am... I'm going to start today, right now in fact!!!!!!!!

Jackson just loved his first day at High School...

Jack was nervous but his Uncle Gwilym took him to his first day of High School yesterday and at the end of the day, after catching the bus home with a friend he was on a 'high' talking about the subjects he did, he is doing today, the teachers he's met, the Maths teacher is strict and all the new friends he's made! and the bus trip home changing at Hornsby.

Way to go Jack!

Charlie also had a good day he tells me, he has a teacher he likes and he's glad he didn't get the 'cranky pants' teacher or the teacher who gives detentions for no reason at all....

I am trying to think of my 'first' days... Mmmmmm...  I had so many of them I can't really remember clearly.  I do remember taking a doll to Turvey Park Primary and seeing a girl talk to another girl about my carrying a doll but they were impressed I think, not mocking.

Fourth from the left front row... with the fake smile!   I went from this 45 student class (25 girls)  at Turvey Park, Wagga to Ingleburn Army Camp one teacher school, where we had Kindy to 6th Class with 18 in the whole school.  The only name I remember from the the three schools I went to around Wagga was... Peter John Remfrey, he and I were the only two in 3rd Class... Penelope Janice Rodd, Peter John Remfrey... what are the chances of two kids with the same initials and the only two in the class.

(I just noticed that some girls seem to be in a tunic sort of uniform, none of the boys seen to be in any sort of uniform unless those short overall things are a uniform?)

Photo of the Day Challenge - 29-1-2015 - Summer.

This is what Summer used to be for me, not the wet wet wet we are experiencing right now.

This photo was taken in about 1956/7 by Rosie and I think it's Coolangatta in Queensland.  Dad took long service leave and we headed North for 6 weeks in a Caravan... hang on I have to show you the Caravan.

Boys, big beautiful Boys... All about Tomorrow.

Two beautiful boys out at Yum Cha today.
This beautiful boy will be going into Year 4 tomorrow... Wow... you are growing up Charlie!
This beautiful boy will be starting a new school tomorrow and going into Year 7!  We will have a High School Grandchild... and later on this year a TEENAGER Grandchild!   Jackson really is growing up.
And tomorrow... This Beautiful Boy... the most beautiful of all... is going to take our first year High School Grandchild to the same High School he went to way back in 1993...  on Jack's first day.
Jack is very proud and thrilled, Gwilym is just as proud and thrilled... as we all are!
Lets hope that Jackson can at last check out his Uncle's name on the School Captains Board.

Boys!  They aren't a bad lot really are they  :-)

Frangipani! I just love them.

Beautiful crop this morning but not enough for a Lei and boy oh boy have I made a Lei or two in my day  :-)

I didn't make this Lei, my Favourite Uncle Tony bought it back with him from Hawaii.  Here we are welcoming him home after his couple of years in the UK.  This photo was taken in 1961.
Our neighbour, Miss Adam drove her car and Dad drove ours to Mascot so that we could all go and Welcome Tony.
L-R  Miss Adam, Rip, Pennie, Rosie, Mama, Tim, Tony and in front Nick and Meredith.

I did make these three Lei's... saying farewell to David on his trip to New Zealand in 1967, with our dear friend Ken.

Some old Christmas photos...

David reading a book that we gave each family... 'Tom the Outback Mailman'.  It's about an old Albion Truck owned by Tom Cruse and he did a mail run for many years through dessert to very remote Stations and Towns on the Birdsville Track.  One of David's favourite movies that our children have watched many times.

Before Christmas Nerys had this brilliant idea of making individual Gingerbread Houses... very successful they were as well as delicious  :-)

Check out this beaut photo that Nerys took with her iPad... couldn't get better could you.

Photo a Day Challenge - 25.1.2015 - Black and White.

This photo is of David's Albion 1892 taken when it was still in service in the 1960's on Pitt Street and Circular Quay, or is it called Loftus Street?

I've just enjoyed a wonderful Goggle Map wander checking out 10 Pitt Street, which is the Ship Inn at Circular Quay.  Beautiful old Pub and what a wonder that it is still standing.

View below from the Cahill Expressway.  I'm glad they didn't knock it down and build one of these boring sky scraper buildings.
