We had a little running away from home last week.

We always stop here for a break for memories sake, we both enjoyed meals here from when we were little children all the way to grown up... but I think it will be our last, there are much better Cafe's in Goulburn now...  we can still wave as we drive past the Paragon can't we.

We caught up with this little stick collector who was quite shy, he didn't believe those people he Face Times with were there in flesh and blood, he warmed up very quickly though.

Next morning we had FROST!  Gosh it's been a while since our car has been covered like this, it was a regular event in England of course but not much in Sydney.

We loved the two year old party in the Rose Garden at old Parliment House,  lots of little 2 year olds running around and celebrating being Two!!

Briony met all these people through her mothers group.   Lovely happy families.

Lots of fun games with parents and one Grandfather  :-)

We enjoyed Breakfast with my cousin Simon, Michelle and Harrie and another evening with my cousin Andrew and Monica.

Then we met the sister of our long time friend Ken, we've heard of Claire for more than 50 years but had never met until now, so like Ken she was and  just a delight.

A lovely little posy for me from Briony  :-)

Photo s Day Challenge - 23.8.2016 - Sad.

Very sad that these wonderful very brave family members and friends had to leave our country and fight a War overseas.  Some died overseas, some committed suicide at home, but all are long gone now.

It is indeed amazing what one can find in old Newspapers. This is The Sydney Morning Herald 18th June 1881. I found it hard to read and had to wonder what some of the words meant... It is a bit of fun though.

My Great Grandparents Richard William Cobcroft and Gertrude Bushell.   I met Gertrude, when I was born the first thing my mother did on returning home was to take me into my Great Grandmothers room and place me in her arms!  I don't remember it of course but this is the story I was told.  Gertrude died almost 4 weeks after was born.

Love these two...

Can you see the grape in this Maggie's beak?  I threw out three old and a tad soft unappetizing grapes a little while ago.  This Maggie found one but it was too big so he/her came over to the bricks and bashed it until it broke and he/she could eat it.  :-)  very amusing.
They sang a very happy song for me, while they were visiting.

Help! there's a strange man leaving by the back door......

Who can it be... this man is wearing a TIE!  My David never wears a tie, I can't remember the last time...  Who is this man?
It's okay, this man is my David, he looks kind of cute doesn't he, I might marry him one day!

Off to another Open Day at the Sydney Bus Museum.

One of Penniedarling's Stories - The Vacuuming Story.

We always enjoy our grandchildren's sleep overs, then when it comes to bedtime,  instead of reading them a book I've told them stories of my childhood or of their parents childhood.  They love these stories and sometimes ask me to repeat the same story or tell one of their cousins the same story.

Last time Remy came to stay he asked for a story of something that happened in our home, he usually asks for a story from the 'Olden Days' but this time he wanted one about his Aunts and Uncle and Father.

I've told this story to many people over the years to describe just how different our four children are...

------------------------------------

The Vacuuming Story.

This is what happens if I request the same from each of my children.   The question is...

'Could you please do the Vacuuming'.

Child #1...  Rolls eyes, huffs and puffs but she does an excellent job, quickly and efficiently.

Child #2...  WHY ME?  I did it last time.   It's not my turn!  It's Child #1's Turn...  It's Child #2's Turn...  Why do I have to do all the work around here!
But once he starts and he starts to sing he does a brilliant job but it does take forever.    ***

Child #3...  Sure Mum.    10 minutes later....  'Child #3 Vacuuming!'   Oh sorry Mum, I'm coming...  5 minutes later... 'CHILD #3! COME DOWN HERE AND DO THE VACUUMING!'   and down she rushes and doing a fantastic job.

Child #4...  Walks in the door and says...  Mum the floor looks a bit dirty, I'll do the vacuuming.

------------------------------------

Sooooo....  I told this story to Remy, son of Child #4, and he asked me to tell him three times that evening!

Yesterday I found out that the minute he walked in the door of his home he asked his mother if he could do the vacuuming.

***(There was one occasion when Tom was doing his vacuuming job so well that he vacuumed up a hot coal from the Combustion Stove!  Our vacuum is a built in one so very soon there was smoke billowing out from under the stairs where the vacuum bag and machinery is.)

Love love just love these little Violets.

One Violet plant was given to me by my Mama when we moved here way back in 1971.  Mama got her Violets from her sister's garden at Wollogorang way way way back, over the years they have spread all through our garden and looking really beautiful right now.

I just love what Ancestry.com finds for me... These newspaper clippings are about my Great Aunt Olive!

Windsor and Richmond Gazette, Saturday 12 September 1896.

Windsor and Richmond Gazette, Saturday 19 September 1896.

Windsor and Richmond Gazette, Saturday 29 October 1898

I remember Olive, she was a very friendly bubbly sort of person who was always interested in people, asking a lot of questions.  Olive died when I was 10, I wish I'd known her more.
