I had to share these memories with you...

I've been posting some of my Great Aunt Cranky's postcards on the Blog I've set up for these 300 postcards received in the 1950/60's... and I came across this one, see below what I've posted.

Dear Pen,

We have about 5 hours here, tried to get in touch with Tony (my uncle) but couldn't.  How did the Spook raising* go?

     Love Nan

* I was 16 years old now and getting into Seance's, I loved them as did my friends.  There are two I remember best, one was in 1961 when one of my friends asked who would win the Melbourne Cup.  I wasn't into Horse racing then or now really but I do remember Lord Fury was spelled out... how could we forget that Seance! Lord Fury did win but none of us were old enough or trusting enough to put money on him.
The second was a couple of years later and I asked who I would marry, I was going out with a David Furley at the time... David was spelled out, then the glass went to the F but then went to the G, then the F and then the G and it seemed to be angry so I don't know if I was pushing it towards the F or not!

I hadn't met David Griffiths then...  Spooky eh!   I haven't done a Seance since......  I wonder why  LOL

Where you ever into Seances????

Part Three of our adventure visiting all the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Dee Why Lagoon to the right.  Grey clouds are moving over us but no more rain.

North Curl Curl Beach to the left, looking South.

On our way to Curl Curl we spot that same girl in the Luminous Sneakers running... I wonder how far she's run so far... she keeps heading South.

Curl Curl Beach Pool was getting some serious work done.

Lots of work going on at the Curl Curl Beach Surf Club as well.

David checking out what's going on at Curl Curl.

 Freshwater Beach looking North.

What!! Here's that same running girl in the Luminous Sneakers... how far is it now?

 Freshwater to the South.

 This is where I live...

...I wish!

How lovely would that be eh!  North facing so it would be wonderfully warm in winter, summertime would be a bit noisy but I could manage it.

The running girl in the Luminous sneakers heads up this hill and vanishes from my view... we don't see her again but I do a Google and find so far she's covered 3.1 Km which is a 42 min walk...

Queenscliff Beach... getting very grey now...

North Steyne Beach, still lots of surfers out there...

At last...  Here we are sitting at Manly Beach enjoying a Tom and Jerry Ice Cream looking at the pink sky... when I remember Shelley Beach!!!!!  Dang we forgot and I'm just too beached out to bother :-)

David does his walk along the waters edge but I'm too pooped so I just watch  :-)

So we enjoyed a really lovely day, we drove home in the dark getting home after 6pm to several phone calls from family wanting to wish me a Happy Birthday and starting to wonder where the heck we were... my mobile was dead as usual  :-(  I must remember to charge it more often.

So how many beaches are there from Palm Beach to Manly?  19.  How many did we get to ... only 16, we forgot Turrimetta, Long Reef and Shelley.

Next time... we'll check out the map first.

Because we'd both lived at Newport at one time does not mean we remember or know all the Beaches...  Doh!!

Home to a lovely parcel from Briony...
... and ...

Tom rang about 9:30pm and after chatting for a while asked if I'd got the flowers... No...  well have a look outside says Tom.  I found them on the front door step but they were so heavy David had to get them for me...
... still on the phone to Tomos but enjoying my beautiful flowers.

I love Birthdays!

... but wait... there's more of Pennie's Birthday to come...

We had such a busy, exciting and happy day last Saturday that I forgot to take more photos!  Gwilym took most of the photos in my last post... but fear not, I've asked Nerys to take these couple of photos so I could tell you what really happened last Saturday!

A couple of weeks ago Nerys and Tim went to a fundraising Trivia Night and we got to talking about all the Trivia fundraisers David and I had been to over the years and what fun they'd been... after Nerys and Tim's table WON!   Nerys was on a roll and suggested we have a Trivia Birthday for me, so she went ahead and made up the questions.

We wanted the whole family present so set up Facetime on the iPad and connected to Briony and Kate in Canberra and tried to connect on iChat on my computer with TEAM-G in Macao but Tomos was in Inner Mongolia and Emma and the Children were at Disneyland in Hong Kong with my little brother Nick and his family... so we missed them :-(

Nerys did a brilliant job and divided us into Teams...
Team Penniedarling -  Pennie, Jackson, Gwilym, Emily and Remy.
Team Rock-On - David, Tim, Charlie, Briony and Kate.
Nerys gave us some Minties and offered 10 points to the team with the longest unbroken Mintie Wrapper... Em won that easily

Let the Game Begin!!  and the questions started coming...  When is QE11's real birthday?  What Animal is on the old 2c coin?  What is the Aboriginal meaning of Turramurra?  and so on... There were prizes... a choice of any one of these Favourites... yum!   There were questions just for the under 10's, there were questions for those in the entertainment world, there were questions for everyone!

Nerys added up the scores and guess what... We were all winners!  After the Birthday girl's team... Penniedarling... received another 10 points because it was her birthday the scores were equal!!  What were the chances eh  LOL!

Well done Nerrynoopoo!!  You did a Brilliant job!

It was all such a success I think we'll have to do a Trivia every family Birthday celebration  :-)

Photo a Day Challenge - 29.7.2013 - Perspective.

There is a great Perspective in this photo taken in one of the many alleyways in Dubrovnik.  Through the alley and up up up the stairs to who knows where.
Dubrovnik was in Yugoslavia when we were there in 1970, now it's back in Croatia.

Penniedarling's Family Birthday Party... by Remy

Firstly we headed to Ku-ring-gai High to watch Jackson play Soccer.

Jackson setting up a beaut Goal!!  It was a very exciting game at 3-3!

Home to help open some pressies...

Food... Food...  I've only had two big bowls of food but I'm always up for more... especially if it's as pretty as this!

No Remy... it's smile for the camera!  they all say....

More pretty food that you won't let me get at.....

What!  more pretty food Aunty Noo Noo?  Is this one for me then??

Ah... I'm getting my gums onto this food...  Chocolate coated pretzels look better though...

I'll just give this card a good suck to see if it's worth persevering...

Aahhh... Penniedarling... this looks delicious, please pretty please is there some for me?

I'm trying, trying but still can't get much of anything...

Big Cousin Charlie is tickling me... and I love it!

Oh Look... the Godfather is here as well and he's tickling me too... Jackson is calling me 'The Remster?'  I think I like it :-)

Aunty Noo Noo is teaching me to walk and I'm just loving it!

Let me introduce you to my Uncle Tim!  He wants to cuddle me all on his own...

Uh... Oh...  Not when Charlie and Jack are around Uncle Tim, we all have to share  :-)

What say I share you with my Godfather and Charlie??

They ordered Pizza's from up the road, and there I was thinking I would be enjoying some as well... but they fooled me... they took me up in my stroller picked up the pizza's and headed home and I fell asleep before we reached Pennie and David's... and do you know what those rotters did???  They ate all the Pizza's before I woke up... what a rotten deal that was!

And... the worst bit of all... they didn't even share dessert with me either!   So okay... so maybe I didn't share my lunch with them... but if I knew this was coming I would have... willingly!!!!!  I'll know better next year!

Part 'Two' of our Birthday explore from Palm Beach to Manly...

David skimming a stone into the Surf at Narrabeen Beach... (Dad called this beach Skinnypea)  :-)  Oh yes he was very funny.

At North Narrabeen we saw a rather thin girl running, she was dressed all in black and wearing these bright luminous orange runners.

 Collaroy Beach.

 Dee Why Beach.

Here we see the same girl running in those Luminous Runners.... wow!  She's traveled some distance.

By now it's almost 2pm and we're both starving so it wasn't going to be Lunch at Manly.

Lunch had to be at Dee Why.
Right at the roundabout was 'Wild Water' which advertised Oysters at $1 each...  Yes!  Our very favourite.    I was sort of thinking the dozen each we ordered would be tiny little things but no... great big and fat and juicy and just delicious!  Yummo!

I don't like any additions to my oysters I love them just freshly opened and natural.

Then we ordered the Seafood Pie special which was just as delicious but far too big for me so I had to ask for a Doggy Bag, I did confess to the Waiter that I don't own a dog but they still gave me the left overs...  I ate all my peas though they were in that empty dish.

Too full for dessert now so we promised ourselves an Ice cream in Manly... if we ever get there!

We chatted at length to the young Waiter and when he left us I said to David that I thought he might be Canadian and not American... David said he thought he was French Canadian... now that's 'out' there!     So when the Waiter came back I told him that we had a bet on... I thought he was Canadian and David thought he was French Canadian.

You should have seen the look of surprise on the Waiters face ... nobody ever guesses he's French Canadian which he is!  He says most people think he's American but quite a lot think he's Irish!  Nah... I couldn't hear Irish in his voice.

We may have lingered longer than we should if we wanted to get to all the beaches but look at our view...  by now the sky was changing with big black clouds coming from the South West.

We wandered around the pool, heading towards the Headland instead of walking on the beach at Dee Why.  (Which I call Just Because)

Quirky Photo #3... do they paint this edge of the pool to #1 protect the rocks?  or #2 protect the swimmers ?

What, What, What is this... we peered at it for ages trying to work out what it was, it was very very long and bubbles were appearing at intervals and it very slowly changed colour, eventually we realized it was not one but two Octopus, Octopusses? Octopi??

A chap appeared near us and we got chatting, he knew everything about Octopus which was fascinating and he told us lots of interesting stories... he says there are several Octopus in the crevices like these and he thinks that these two were mating.

It started to rain now with a few but great big drops of rain but he was so fascinating we stayed and listened.   He was a local and I think he was sort of protecting the Octopus, he says that even though there are signs saying do not take the animals around the headland... several people take no notice, which I find very sad.

That's the chap in the distance and his friend sitting on the rock.
That's enough for today.

Do we get to Manly?
Do we get to Every Beach?
Do we get our Ice Cream?

Stay Tuned!!  :_)
