Be afraid... if you live within flight distance from us... be very afraid!

I just placed the compost bin at the back door for David to empty, it's full of the pulp from my favourite Apple, Carrot and Ginger Juice and in no time at all my two Magpies were enjoying a feast.

Several years ago I found a recipe for turning this pulp into Muffins or something like that, our home was full of hungry family members and we devoured these delicious muffins in a short time...  10 minutes later all three toilets in our home were flushing and flushing and flushing away  :-)

So everybody, look out for these two Maggies who may come pooping your way  :-)

My sort of Pets.

They flew in, they admired our home, they laughed out long and loud, they posed for photos then they took flight once again.   These are the sort of pets I love  :-)    Just beautiful!

This colour is amazing, I see it when I'm at the clothes line, that bright orange of Tom's Clivia.

From way back here it just glows.
At the corner of our home it's getting brighter.
 Wow!

Just amazing this year! The best yet.

The 'Mackey Incident'!

The other day Ruth A, one of my online friends from Albany W.A. asked me where my passion for Babushkas came from.  I remember as if it was only yesterday so I wrote this little story below.

Long long ago in the land of Aus a little girl was celebrating her 5th birthday with a small party held at her Mama and Poppa's home in Strathfield, she was living there with her parents and her young brother along with her Aunt and her Uncle, one Great Uncle, one Great Grandmother and often two Great Aunts, this was a full and happy home... Until...  the ‘Mackay Incident!’

It was a happy day for this little girl who was excited to be having her first party and to have three friends she'd known all her life come along to eat fairy bread and jelly and cake and to open presents.   This little girl’s friends and her two year old brother were sitting around the birthday table in the sun room when... the ‘Mackey’s’ arrived, the ‘Mackey’s’ were late, very late.  The ‘Mackey’s’ consisted of a mother and a father a big sister and a brother who was the same age as the Birthday Girl.

The ‘Mackey’s’ were loud people, very loud!  They bounced into the party and bounded up to this little girls brother wishing him a happy birthday and giving him a present... The little girl was very surprised and the mother of the birthday girl was trying to tell the ‘Mackey’s’ that this was the little girls birthday not the little boys but the ‘Mackey’s’ just laughed and continued helping the little girl’s brother to open ’his’ present while the birthday girl looked on trying to hide her disappointment.  When eventually the little girls brother managed to open ’his’ present he discovered it was a small nail brush which fascinated him.  The little girl didn’t have a nail brush, she could have used a nail brush, she could have used this very nail brush but... Her brother wouldn't share, he thought it was his nail brush.

In the meantime and as if this mix up wasn’t bad enough the ‘Mackey’ sister sat down in a corner and opened her little bag... inside she had a Babushka Doll.  The birthday girl had never ever seen a Doll like this, the birthday girl never liked dolls much but this Babushka Doll absolutely fascinated her, the ‘Mackey’ sister wouldn’t allowed the Birthday girl to play with this Babushka, not once.

This little girl grew up never seeing another Babushka but never forgetting them either.

So it wasn’t until...  the 11th of June 1970, now aged 24 that this little girl happened to walk into the G.U.M. Store in Moscow, saw and bought her first Babushka or as they should be known Matroushka's.

Since then this little girl, now grown up, bought Babushka's for own her children's birthdays but when she discovered  friends of her children being not as gentle as they should be,  this grown up mother placed all the Babushas out of the reach of little uncaring hands and so her collection grew until it became general knowledge and many of her wonderful friends would say when seeing Babushkas somewhere in the world that they thought of her, and some of them even bought a little something Babushka for that now grown up little girl.

Has there ever been a collector as luck as this little girl… I don't think so.

As much as this little girl has enjoyed and loved her collection of Matroushka’s over the years she has never forgotten the ‘Mackey Incident’!

P.S.  My friend Ruth A. did say, after reading my story, that she is glad I took up collecting Babushkas because she didn't think collecting Nail Brushes would be at all interesting!  :-)

45 Year Anniversary of moving into our first home!

Here is what our old home looked like in 1930.

This is what it looked like when we arrived in 1971.

And now...  old house gone, new one out of picture.

John Witter built his home in 1930, he lived here 17 years before his death, his wife lived here 38 years before she died.  Keith and Peggy Allen lived here for 3 years but...  Hey!  We win, we have lived here for 45 Years!  Yay!  may there be many more to come and enjoy.

Oh well it was worth a try...

This painting belonged to my parents.   I've been sorting through many old photos so I can put them onto one of those USB thingies to give to my siblings when I came across this painting of our Ancestor's home at Rodd Point.  Barnstable Manor was built about 1838 by our Great Great Grandfather Brent Clements Rodd who arrived from Tasmania in 1822 aged 13 years.   I looked closely at this photo and noted the signature was a 'Amy Vale'!  So I decided to see if Amy was still out there because I knew she hadn't painted this in the 1800's but wasn't exactly sure when.

I did a search and the discovered an Amy Vale living in Hereford, England exactly where our Ancestors came from almost 200 years ago!  I messaged her on Face Book see below...

Hello! I know this is probably a long shot but I was just looking for an Artist called Amy Vale who painted my Great Grandfathers home at Rodd Point in Sydney called 'Barnstable Manor'. The painting is signed by Amy Vale and says Circa 1820  I konw it wasn't painted back then because that was the same time John Rodd and his young three sons arrived from England. I know my family came from Prestigne in Hereford, where there is an Artists Retreat called 'The Rodd', bought from the Rodd's by Sir Sidney Nolan and donated by him on his death. There are just too many connections in my search so that's why I decided to write to you to see if it was you or a relative of yours. I will enclose a scan of the said painting. cheers Pennie Rodd Griffiths.

I received a prompt reply...

Hello!  What a fascinating story, I'm afraid it wasn't me nor any relative of mine who painted it, but it is beautiful. Sorry I can't help you any more but good luck with your search! Amy x     http://www.amyvale.com/

From Amy's Website...

Oh well, as I've already said... it was worth a try  :-)

Photo a Day Challenge - 15.9.2016 - Yes,

David and I both said 'Yes' 48 years ago at Guildford Register Office in Surrey, along with 7 people I'd never met,  plus I hadn't seen David for 7 months.

L to R - Terry, Barb, David, Christine, Elsie, Pennie, Dunno and Peter.

Elsie and Peter have died and we've lost touch with the other four.

P.S.  I made my own Wedding dress but I don't have it any longer, it was stolen in Milan, Italy back in 1970... I wonder whose wearing it now?   :-)

P.P.S.   Hang on... why the heck am I wearing gloves????  who wears gloves when they are about to have a ring put on their finger?    Bit suss if you ask me, I will have to investigate further.

I've found this blurry photo... so the above photo was taken when we first arrived at the Register Office then I must have taken my gloves off to get the job done.   The photo below looks as though those three men are making sure I don't make a spelling mistake signing my name  LOL...   They all look happy though.

It's been a very busy morning/day!

Remy rang early this morning to ask if he could come to our home while his Daddy is at a course in Hornsby... What a treat!   First thing he wanted to do was to pick flowers for Daddy, Mummy, Odie and himself.
I love this... he saw these Violets and picked a leaf, not a flower, he then showed me the leaf telling me it was a love heart and he kissed it  :-)  how sweet is he eh!

Three 'flower picking' adventures and here's the result :-)

Time for some morning tea with Peepee's Parmesan and Vegemite Crisps and some coconut water... oh and a little game or two with Cubic Frog.

Then Peepee cut up a grape for Remy to give to our Maggies.

Then Lunch was ordered... Australia, a kangaroo, wriggly worms and corners.

Then building a Cubby, similar to the one he'd built the other day in Sydney park.  David got to work on the chain saw and both boys had their ear muffs on.

Daddy arrived and helped build the Cubby and what a brilliant Cubby it is!

It fits perfectly... Thanks for coming to play Remy  :-)
Then back home with two teddies, Teddy Standing for Remy and Teddy sitting for Elodie.  :-)
