More on the missing pigeon chested and pimply boy... Richard Benson.

Last Tuesday I posted this newspaper article about Richard Benson

So... Richard did return home, he grew up, then sometime before 1930 he married Ethel May and they had one son, Victor Ralf, who according to my Aunt Pam, was a very spoiled brat of a boy who sadly died at only 21, see newspaper report below.

Richard died in 1972 aged 68 years

(From trove nla newspapers The Sydney Morning Herald 9 N.S.W. 1842 - 1954 )
Thursday 26 July 1951

Some songs lyrics just have to be read to believed!

Picture this... I was out last night at a friends home when the 'man about the house' come in and offered to put another log on the fire, which he did and of course I started singing...
'Put another log on the fire... '   and that's all I remember of this song but the 'man about the house' sang... 'And come and tell me why your leaving me!

I laughed out loug!  Are these words really in this song!

Yes they are and even funnier, I remember some of the lines now but what a great song!

Join in with me now...........

Put another log on the fire.
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
And go out to the car and change the tyre.
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe,
And then go fetch my slippers.
And boil me up another pot of tea.
Then put another log on the fire, babe,
And come and tell me why you're leaving me.

Now don't I let you wash the car on Sunday?
Don't I warn you when you're gettin fat?
Ain't I a-gonna take you fishin' with me someday?
Well, a man can't love a woman more than that.
Ain't I always nice to your kid sister?
Don't I take her driving every night?
So, sit here at my feet 'cos I like you when you're sweet,
And you know it ain't feminine to fight.

So, put another log on the fire.
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
Go out to the car and lift it up and change the tyre.
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe,
And then go fetch my slippers.
And boil me up another pot of tea.
Then put another log on the fire, babe,
And come and tell me why you're leaving me.

The things you find on Ancestry.com

Walter Benson married my Great Aunt Olive Cobcroft.  I remember meeting Olive and Walter when I was a child.

Look what I found on Ancestry.com today... from the Police Gazette dated 28.8.1918, Richard was Walter and Olives oldest son.

How embarrassing for a teenager to be described as Pigeon-chested with pimples!

A Story from way back in 1989!

Here's the story of a family Pugeot,
Who was driving around four very lovely kids,
All of them had smiles of gold just like their mother,
The youngest one stayed home.

Way back in 1989 Briony had to do a school project on 'The day in the life of......'   We choose a Saturday and our family car which we called the 'Mother Pug'.

Pennie was the Chauffeur.

The children were all still at school, Year 3 to Year 12, it was August, the older three had given up Saturday Sport for other much more interesting activities and the youngest didn't have sport this day for some reason.

Before dawn Nerys had to be driven to a Nursing Home in Wahroonga where she was working part time, she was doing her HSC this year as well.

An hour or so later Tomos needed to be in the City for singing lessons.

Sun is now well and truly up and Briony needs to get to the church hall in Turramurra for about 5 hours of Ballet.

Gwilym needed some pocket money so he offered to clean our Mother Pub.

Gwil's friend James came around and helped with the washing.

Beautiful job boys!  The 'Mother Pub' looks wonderful.

It's about 4pm now and I can do a run combining two... Picking Tom up from the Station and Briony has finished Ballet.

Tomos needs to go back to the Station for the show he's performing in at the Sydney Opera House.

David takes a break from his bus restoration to check the Pugs engine.

Late in the afternoon now and Pennie and the 'Mother Pug' need to head back to Wahroonga to pick up a very tired looking Nerys after her nursing shift.

Hey!  I didn't take a photo of picking up Tomos at the Opera House at 10:30pm!  Dang!

Three Things - The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful!

The Beautiful - My Water Dragon is back after hibernation... Wow... the first I knew about it was his appearance at my sliding door this morning, after I spotted him he waited patiently for me while I got him some blueberries :-)

The Bad - Yesterday, this nasty tiny little grass tick found it's way to my ear, I dug it out and here it is on an envelope with the 'Paid in Australia' on it.  Tiny isn't it!
Just look at my poor sore and very itchy ear!  :-(

And... the Good!  At last I've finished redoing the bask, cuffs and neck of this jumper I knitted for David for his 70th Birthday.   I had to unpick them all because the jumper had gone baggy in these areas, it was a tough job on the cuffs and bask but the neck was easy.

David is still wearing his old 48 year old jumper and below the new one I made him 3 years ago... already baggy at cuffs, bask and neck!

What did you do today Penniedarling?

Welllllll....   I started doing 'repairs' to this jumper of David's.  I first knitted a jumper like this for David way back in 1967, he still wears it leather elbow patches and all.    A few years ago I decided I'd knit him the same jumper for his 70th but it turned out too baggy with sleeves far too long and a neck far too floppy... so today I started unpicking one of these sleeves... now do you know just how hard it is to unpick a jumper starting in the middle of it!!    It is easy to unpick from the top to the start but trying to unpick in the middle is tricky to say the least.

I did manage to get the too long bit off the sleeve and get the needle into the stitches... well sort of it's a bit dodgy around the pattern of twists.

I rolled up the unraveled wool and was ready to start re knitting the cuff from the top down... but first!

I made some lunch... Just Delicious!  and yes I am a bit burger obsessed at the moment!

One cuff shorter and tighter... now for the second and the neck!

Just heard this on the radio... I really did Laugh Out Loud!

“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”
Jerry Seinfeld
