ANZAC Day plus Emily's Birthday, Charlie's Birthday and Elodies Birthday... what a lovely day it has been.
Elodie loves the little Red Riding Hood I made for her.
Before the Birthday Cakes I read a little bit about my Grandfather Harrie:-
Lets have a minute to remember all our family
and friends who did what they could for our country overseas, and at home
during those horrible wars.
Then it was CAKE Time!!!!!!
It's amazing just how good these lazy little cakes looked, they tasted pretty good as well. I bought a piece of plain sponge, cut out the hearts with a heart shaped cutter, then made the icing which was just too runny... but what the heck! They look fun
Remy helping Elodie blow out her candles!
Yum!!
David doing an Experiment with magnets while Elodie takes a good look at the ANZAC Biscuits.
Then... what do Aussies do on ANZAC Day... teach the young ones how to play 'Two Up'
Remy loved being the Spinner!
Before the Birthday Cakes I read a little bit about my Grandfather Harrie:-
Harrie Cleveland Cobcroft
My Grandfather Harrie was
born in Windsor on the 6th of July 1897 (BTW Nick was born on the same day 61
years later.)
Harrie Enlisted for the Army
on the 6th of May 1916 at Marrickville when he was 18 years old.
Service
number 29048 - 116th Howitzer Battery
Harrie's first Military Medal
was received in Northern France.
The Citation reads :- For bravery and devotion
to duty during the operation at Mont De Merris near Strazeele on the night
2nd/3rd of June 1918.
Gunner
Cobcroft accompanied the F.O.O. (Forwards Operation Officer) during the attack
and in spite of the heavy shelling he performed valuable work mending telephone
wires and maintaining communication with forward Wireless Section from which
information regarding the attack was being passed to Brigades.
(Harrie was almost 21 years
old)
Just three weeks later
Harrie's second Military Medal was awarded after the final successful action in
taking Mont de Merris.
The Citation reads :- In an operation against
the enemy position near Merris on June 28th 1918, Gunner Cobcroft displayed
exceptional bravery and devotion to duty.
When all lines from forward observation posts to Battalion Headquarters
had been cut by enemy barrage, he with utter disregard for his own personal safety
regardless of danger worked continuously for three hours mending breaks in the
telephone lines over ground swept by enemy barrage and machine gun fire.
His
courage and ability greatly assisted in making the operation successful.
Prince
Edward presented Harrie with his Medals and on presenting his second medal said… 'What! you again.'
Harrie
was Discharged on the 18th of September 1919.
I remember Harrie very
fondly, my name for him was Poppa. As a child Rip and Rosie and I lived with
Poppa and Mama in Strathfield. Poppa always had time to play with me or to tell
me stories, he was a very kind and loving person… but he did smoke a lot.
One of the things Harrie
really enjoyed was his 2 way radio which gave him a connection to friends who
also had a 2 way radio, I remember hearing the crackle and the very strange
voice coming from somewhere a long, long way away.
My
Poppa died in his bed in January 1955 at the age of only 57, I was 9 ½
I will never forget my Poppa.

Remembering all of our Family Ancestors who have represented Australia in Wars over the years but particually my Grandfather Harrie Cleveland Cobcroft.
It is 100 years since Harrie was awarded a Military Medal and then another for his bravery in Northern France. A Celebration will be underway at Villers-Bretonneux today with our Prime Minister and two of my cousins present.
Today and many days through out the years we remember all the 26 members of our family and friends who left Australia to fight in Wars overseas for us... we are the lucky ones.
This is how I remember my beautiful Grandfather Harrie, playing with his two way radio!

I do love to knit, I do love a challenge when knitting but...
This pattern I'm making up has a lot of knitting and is one very big challenge... for every two rows I knit it takes me the same amount of time to unravel the balls of wool before I can knit the next row! Then when I look at the back I see so so so many ends to stitch in when I've finished! Oh yes it's a challenge but I'm very happy with the results... so far!

Always something to do around here...
Bricks at the back step had sunk a little, making it just a tad dangerous... so...
David's on the Job!
Beautiful Job David, much safer now but it's funny trying to get used to a higher area near the top step.

So naughty I am!
Here is our Family story for these strict rules!
The year was 1955 when Mama, my lovely grandmother Eileen, took down the families Christmas decorations before the 6th of January, while doing this... she fell off the ladder and broke her arm! Then on the 22nd of January Poppa, my beautiful Grandfather Harrie died of a heart attack.
I did follow Rosie's rules for many years... then after a few years I got so fed up with the decorations I would take them down as soon as I could.
But only last week... I saw this in the corner of our sitting room! it's April now and these Christmas Decorations haven't been put away. I have to admit to noticing them before but thought I'd put them away later... 'later' took a long time to happen.
We were away over Christmas so that's my excuse..... But all done and dusted now!

Just loving the colours!
One of my favourite natives.
Love this time of year when I can buy this small Cyclamens.
Very dry and hot still so I'm giving the garden some much needed rain... do you think this will bring on the real rain???
Watering my Great Aunt Ella's Camellia.

Here's a story about a Lady who was...
Many moons ago the Lady of this Home bought a plastic Rice Cooker for the Microwave, it was only a cheap item but it's worked very well for many years until... last week when the Man of this Home put some already cooked but frozen rice into this cooker then into the Microwave for what he thought was one minute... but he programmed in TEN Minutes!!! Then the Man about this Home went off to play in his Garage!
The Lady of this house was working in the Office and eventually smelled some burning... she went into the kitchen just as the Microwave beeped... inside was one very smelly burnt hot container of rice which she grabbed and took outside to her Man! The brown coloured rice was a hard thick circle and the container had a melted hole!
The worst result of his little incident was the SMELL!! Yuck!
Anyway... The Lady of this Home said she would look online for another, she doesn't like going to shops.
So while the Man headed back to the Garage the Lady headed to the Office and ordered a new Rice Cooker.
Later that evening this Lady received a forwarded email from the Man which told her that he had bought a new rice cooker from the same place the Lady had bought one several hours ago!
So now we have 2 Rice Cookers in our Home... aren't we lucky!!!???
