Mandy, Mandy, Mandy... is it Mandy?? YES it is... Yay! Mandy is the only Kookaburra who perches on the pergola looking for me!

It's just over three years since we rescued this lovely bird.
Here she is back on 29th November 2016.

Isn't she beautiful, so friendly and happy to see us... after this little scrap of bacon she flew away a short distance then came back knocking her beak on the pergola so David gave her another little snippet of bacon.

Love Frangipani, always have loved Frangipanis but this year our garden has done us proud! Just beautiful.

This is the first year that we have enjoyed more than a couple of flowers on this pink frangipani, so beautiful.
Still flowering after so little rain.

But... it's this white Frangipani that has the bestest smell!  Wow!

I made these Lei's back in January 1967 to farewell David on his way to New Zealand onboard the 'Fairsea', that's our dear friend Ken standing behind me 😊

Today Lynne and I played 'Patchwork Express'!

I say 'played' what I mean to say is... we tried to play... gosh it was tricky with so many instructions and totally different to any game I have ever played!  But it was fun that's for sure.
We played the game twice and I think I won this one... not exactly a pleasing looking quilt though is it!  Thank you Jack and Charlie (and Nerys 😉)

Photo a Day Challenge - 24.1.2020 - Treat Ourself.

Couldn't resist this photo... it was a Seafood Restaurant in Lisbon and that Shell Fish hanging in the window was alive and moving which attracted those passing by as you can see by the look on this mans face.

1968 - We had very little cash to spend on our couple of months tripping around Europe, we slept in the back of a diesel London Taxi Cab, (diesel was cheaper than petrol in Europe), we did enjoy the odd shower at a Youth Hostel about once a week and we stocked up with canned and dried foods in England because it was cheaper so cooked ourselves most meals... But we treated ourselves in each big town by enjoying a meal in a restaurant... we judged the restaurant by what the cost of a Prawn Cocktail was on the menu stuck on the window, 3/6 (3 shillings & sixpence).
When writing my 'Europe by London Taxi Blog' I found an old postcard we'd sent to a family member which said... 8 weeks cost us 100 English Pounds for fuel, food and the odd Youth Hostel!  Amazing.

Photo a Day Challenge - 22.1.2020 - Cold.

1969 - Our Campsite near the Futa Pass, about one hour north of Florence.  We so remember waking up in the morning and trying to get out of the back of our Taxi to do a bush wee... (is it called a 'bush wee' in Europe?) both of us had to use two legs pushing to get one door open because of the build up of snow on the running boards.  Ever done a wee in thick snow...  Mmmmm... never forgotten that either!

Below 1970 in France... am I mad or something? looking very cool in almost knee deep snow!  This was the first of our two, two month tours driving around Europe living in a London Taxi... below is the Taxi we sent home, we still have the number plate.

Photo a Day Challenge - 21.1.2020 - I am.

I am related to two English Families who came to Australia very early on... on my maternal side was John Cobcroft my 4x Great Grandfather who came from Southwark, London and who was involved in Highway Robbery, he arrived on the Second Fleet, June 1790.  After only 4 years of his 7 year sentence he was granted land at Wilberforce (so he must have really been a good boy don't you think?)
Above is the Barn he built on his land which is still standing!

My Paternal English Family came from Evesham, Worcestershire, UK.  John Tremayne Rodd, my 3x Great Grandfather wouldn't go into the church as his father expected him to do so he was banished from the family and after his wife died he and his three little boys sailed to Australia arriving in April 1822.  Here is the home my 2xGreat Grandfather built on Rodd Point, which is no longer standing.

Photo a Day Challenge - 16.1.2020 - I am Here! Well I was...

1969 - Cerveteri, near Rome. Italy.  I have never forgotten discovering this amazing 9th Century place, we were the only people there and I couldn't stop wandering around and wondering what life must have been like back in those days, still fascinates me it does.

From Wiki.

Necropolis of the Banditaccia

The most famous attraction of Cerveteri is the Necropoli della Banditaccia, which has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site together with the necropolis in Tarquinia. It covers an area of 400 hectares (990 acres), of which 10 hectares (25 acres) can be visited, encompassing a total of about 1,000 tombs often housed in characteristic mounds. It is the largest ancient necropolis in the Mediterranean area. The name Banditaccia comes from the leasing (bando) of areas of land to the Cerveteri population by the local landowners.
The tombs date from the 9th century BC (Villanovan culture) to the later Etruscan period (third century BC). The earliest tombs are in the shape of a pit, in which the ashes of the dead were housed; also, simple potholes are present.

On Sunday we Celebrated a couple of birthdays... for Remy and Tim.

Remy asked if I could make him a Caramel Birthday Cake with M&M's and Sour Watermelon inside, as I wasn't feeling 100% ticketyboo James and Briony jumped at the chance to make... what turned out to be a truly wonderful masterpiece of two cakes!
They bought a couple of caramel cakes then got to work... firstly make a hole in the bottom cake then stuff with M&M's and Sour Watermelon Jellies... yes Bri did take the metal ring out before putting the top on.
James was just doing a little taste test.
Briony did a wonderful job of decorating the base of the cakes.

Nerys was bringing something for Tim but Briony decided to use the centre piece of cake for Tim.

Now James gets down the the serious business.

Yay!  Look at this masterpiece.

Tim's cake turned out to be a cricket ball on green lawn!  Wonderful stuff.

Just look at the wonderful surprise on Remy's face when he arrived looking for his cake!
