Photo a Day Challenge - 11.10.2022 - Grey.

When we rescued Mandy way back in 2016, she was very grey but as she grew she lost all that grey... then several different colours came into place,  not like us, we start with colour and then as we mature gracefully our hair turns grey or even white!

Birds Birds and more of them.

I have been feeding one Cocky every now and then but yesterday there was a big battle...  a beautiful King Parrot popped in for a little bit of native bird seed so I gave him a tiny bit but then one Cocky appeared and frightened Mr King away, then another and another Cocky arrived and it was just madness so Mr King flew away... four flippin Cockies fighting for a bit of Mr King's seed, the one sitting on the branch above is either the one I've fed a few times or the Boss of the Cockies!!  Anyway I shooed them away and a little while later Mr King re-appeared so I gave him a tiny bit of seed on the old tram seat beside the table but out of sight in this photo, then I headed to the Sewing room...

And who should arrive shortly after flying onto a branch outside my sewing room and peering in the window but Mandy and... and... yesterday was Mandy's 5th Birthday...  but was it Mandy??  I got a couple of pieces of meat and threw it on the driveway but this Kooka just looked at it and shortly after flew away, Mandy used to fly down and gobble up my offerings very quickly.

How lucky are we, today we enjoyed the company of two beautiful visitors.

Yay!  A visit from our grown up Jackson Harry!
And look... he doesn't need to have someone beside him while driving any more... Another Yay!

Our almost 4 1/2 year old Mandy came to say Hello.  Mandy must have sensed that I'm not feeling 100% ticketyboo because even after I gave her the usual amount of nibbles she stayed for more than half an hour, keeping her eyes on me she doesn't usually do that and it felt so good having her there watching over me :-)

Photo a Day Challenge - 5.1.2021 - A Pet.

Domestic Pets aren't our thing but we do love the native animals who make their homes with us.

Above is Milly our Water Dragon who on top of our old Tram seat trying to get my attention through the window... she loves Blueberries...  we haven't seen her for a couple of years now, we have seen some others though.

Mandy our Kookaburra who still visits regularly.

And Billy Blunt our Blue Tongue Lizard.

P.S. Our 'Pets' are named after one of my favourite childhood books... Milly Molly Mandy!

Milly - Water Dragon, Molly - Dog next door,  Mandy - Kookaburra and best friend Billy Blunt - MMM Friend.

Happy 4th Birthday to Mandy.

Mandy fell out of her nest on this day exactly 4 years ago, Niall found her then David wrapped her up and took her to our local Vets who checked her over and called WIRES who came around and showed us how to look after her.  We made her a new nest with lots of dried grasses in the bottom and watched as her mother attended to her every need and we watched her grow.

In mid December our family all headed to Hamilton Island for a week and Alda, our next door neighbour let us know that Mandy had flown off, but only a day or two after our return there she was high up in one of our trees saying Hello... with her mother by her side!

Over the months Mandy visited often with Mother watching out for her but in the past two years Mandy has come for a visit on her own, if I don't notice her she calls in a very soft 'Who ha' and enjoys a little nibble of meat.  Such a joy and honour!

Photo a Day Challenge - 10.9.2020 - Life.

29th November 2016 - this is the day we found our dear little kookaburra on our driveway, she couldn't fly and could hardly make a noise but a couple of other Kookaburras certainly made noise when we picked her up and made a little nest for her. We named her Mandy and looked after her till she was ready to fly the nest at about 4 weeks of age.   That was almost 4 years ago but Mandy pops by regularly to say hello, just as she did this week.

Photo a Day Challenge - 23.8.2020 - Pet

Never been into domestic pets but we do love animals, here is a photo of Mandy taken on her last visit. We rescued Mandy as a very young new born back in 2016 and every now and then she pops in to say hello and we feel very loved.

Mandy, Mandy, Mandy... Hurray! Haven't seen her in ages so what a treat to have her call in to say hello just now, we first rescued Mandy almost 4 years ago and I've just done a little research. A Kookaburra can live to be 20 years old.

Photo a Day Challenge - 7.4.2020 - Month of Gratitude.

Mandy!  Very grateful that this beautiful Kookaburra hasn't forgotten us and pops in to say Hello every now and then.

3 1/2 years ago we found Mandy on our driveway, poor little thing had fallen out of her nest.
With the advice from WIRES we made a little home for her near where she was found.
Mum called in often to give Mandy a little feed and to see how she was getting on.
Then almost exactly one month after we rescued her she was ready to fly off and join her family.
Before we could take away her home another bird or birds thought they could make it their home... no way!

Yesterday Mandy popped in to say hello once more, we've seen a lot of her this year, maybe she knows about COVID19 and is coming to see if we are okay... we haven't fed her anything but she always finds something or should I say 'someone' to eat in our garden 💚💙💛💜

Mandy, Mandy, Mandy... is it Mandy?? YES it is... Yay! Mandy is the only Kookaburra who perches on the pergola looking for me!

It's just over three years since we rescued this lovely bird.
Here she is back on 29th November 2016.

Isn't she beautiful, so friendly and happy to see us... after this little scrap of bacon she flew away a short distance then came back knocking her beak on the pergola so David gave her another little snippet of bacon.

Lovely Day today and I think it must be 'Bird Visiting Day' if there's such a thing.

First up was this beautiful Magpie.

Next up was Mandy! We haven't seen Mandy this year, I thought she'd may have moved interstate but NO... Here she is... Yay!

Then to Wow us!  along comes Mr King Parrot, his Missus wasn't with him today but he enjoyed some native bird seed that I've just bought for them.

The next visitor we enjoyed was Mr Cocky!  All on his own as well.  Actually all our bird visitors were on their own today.
