Photo a Day Challenge - 16.1.2020 - I am Here! Well I was...
1969 - Cerveteri, near Rome. Italy. I have never forgotten discovering this amazing 9th Century place, we were the only people there and I couldn't stop wandering around and wondering what life must have been like back in those days, still fascinates me it does.
From Wiki.
Necropolis of the Banditaccia
The most famous attraction of Cerveteri is the Necropoli della Banditaccia, which has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site together with the necropolis in Tarquinia. It covers an area of 400 hectares (990 acres), of which 10 hectares (25 acres) can be visited, encompassing a total of about 1,000 tombs often housed in characteristic mounds. It is the largest ancient necropolis in the Mediterranean area. The name Banditaccia comes from the leasing (bando) of areas of land to the Cerveteri population by the local landowners. The tombs date from the 9th century BC (Villanovan culture) to the later Etruscan period (third century BC). The earliest tombs are in the shape of a pit, in which the ashes of the dead were housed; also, simple potholes are present.

Photo a Day Challenge - 5.4.2016 - Thank You.
Yes... Thank you Mr Leonardo Di Vinci for this beautiful piece of art!
And thanks to the stars and fairies who allowed us to visit this lovely
building before it became so popular, now days you have to book and pay for a
ticket before you leave your Country... and you only have a limited time to view the painting and the rest of the rooms here, and... if you are late, you miss
out!
In 1969 we had the place to ourselves, we wandered around for ages... and it cost us nothing! How lucky were we eh!

Looking down at the Piazza dei Miracoli from the Leaning Tower of Pisa in 1969, just a little bit scary it was :-)
