Photo a Day Challenge - 26.4 2014 - Enjoy the little things.

The tallest of these smallest of my Babushka's is only 5 1/2 cm tall and that's the cat in the hat!

The smallest doll is smaller than an ordinary grain of rice!

I do enjoy these little things  :-)

P.S. Note that one Poo Bear has the word on his Honey container spelt  incorrectly!  ... it was never 'Honey'... it was always 'Hunny' in the books  :-)

Photo a Day Challenge - 25.4.2014 - Remember. ANZAC DAY.

Gunner Harrie Cleveland Cobcroft, my Maternal Grandfather.

 2nd/3rd June 1918.

This was sent to Harrie's mother in Australia while he was in France.

It's the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It's the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It's the soldier, who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives the protestor the right the burn the flag. __Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Look I'm rich!!!!!   It's funny what you can find in my home!  Who knew I had this many notes from so many different countries,  I didn't!

We haven't even been to some of these countries on these notes, one of the children must have over the years... but I do remember those old Aussie notes.

Photo a Day Challenge - 17.4.2014 - Something learned

Well!  We think we are living in a 'Nanny' State...  looks like it was a lot tighter way back in 1945.  This is for my Uncle Tony, Rosie's young brother.

Photo a Day Challenge - 16.4.2014 - My Vice.

Vice is a practice, behavior, or habit generally considered immoral, sinful, depraved, or degrading in the associated society. In more minor usage, vice can refer to a fault, a negative character trait, a defect, an infirmity, or a bad or unhealthy habit (such as an addiction to smoking). Synonyms for vice include fault, sin, depravity, iniquity, wickedness, and corruption.
The opposite of vice is virtue.[1]

Well I have none of the above Vices... but I do have a husband who has a Vice!!  Very handy it is as well.  Over 50 years old now it's done him proud!

Photo a Day Challenge - 15.4.2014 - I'm reading this.

I heard Robert Wainwright speaking to Richard Fidler on 'Conversations' a few weeks ago.  I knew of the woman he was speaking about but a couple of times he said Australians had never heard of her, I thought this strange and thought I must have heard about Sheila Chisholm when I was living in England or read about her somewhere... until about half way through the 'Conversation' when Wainwright spoke of the Sheep Station Sheila had grown up on... 'Wollogorang'!

So... maybe I heard my Great Aunt Cranky speaking of her or maybe John, Dinny or even Randy?  Her life was quite interesting having married first a Lord, then a Baron then a Prince of Russia.  (Hey maybe this is where I thought I would end up, as a kid I always thought I'd be a Princess one day.)

The Watson's bought 'Wollogorang' from the Chisholm's way back in 1912 when Sheila was 16.

Mystery solved... or so I thought.

The last time I was speaking to the current owners of 'Wollogorang', Janet mentioned that Sheila Chisholm had visited 'Wollogorang' in 1967 around the same time I was there!  Our Signatures are in the same Guest Book, not on the same date but around the same time...  so... Maybe I met Sheila way back then but if not I'm pretty sure I learned all about her from my 'Wollogorang' Family   :-)

Fascinating book with Sheila being involved with both David and Bertie Windsor as well as numerous other men, not the sort of world I've ever lived or wanted to live but interesting to know.

Thanks Robyn for the loan :-)
