Photo a Day Challenge - 30.4.2013 - Glasses.
I had a laugh about this photo challenge... I could have taken a photo of all our junk shop spectacles, or I could have taken a photo of our beautiful 'only for special occasions' glasses but then I thought...
No I'll photograph all my 'Free' glasses!
Starting from the Right moving to the left... a couple of tumblers given to us by David's Father, then two frosted tumblers that came with sweetly scented candles in them, next are the Nutino (Nutella) tumblers left over from when Antoine was living here, next are a couple of tumblers with handles that once held Honey, next are the taller glasses that contained Peanut Butter way back when we had kids living here, then some even taller glasses left over from Rip'n'Rosie and finally several beer pints being thrown out from Pubs in England.
Used every day with the numbers dwindling on occasions but still plenty to keep us going... :-)

It's funny how life is changing in our family and yours I suspect... The phone didn't ring once yesterday but... we must have been in contact with family at least a dozen times! Face Time has replaced the telephone!!!!
We watched Remy being bathed in Newtown... isn't he just adorable :-)
Oh! he likes that duck...
... he really likes this duck... don't worry Remy your Mummy and Daddy have about 100 of them left over from your Baby Shower that you missed!
Beautiful boy...
We had several Face Times with Charlie and Jackson and even a couple from Nerys then we had a lovely Face Time with Briony and Kate in Canberra... oh yes indeed we were so busy answering the Face Time!! Wonderful stuff :-)
Oh! I almost forgot all those messages I received from Jackson on Skype as well... he declared Charlie's Party at District 3 as being 'Awesome!' Gosh his spelling is good :-)

Charlie's Birthday was non stop...
We received a Face to Face call at 8am... When are we coming up to see Charlie's Presents??
We got there at about 9:30am with a cake for Morning Tea!
Seriously cool shirt, trousers and shoes for a seriously cool boy!
A new Cricket bag which he fits into!
... and all but Jackson's head fits into...
Pennie found a candle with a 3 on it as well as one with 4! That makes 7 Charlie tells us :-)
Charlie cut and shared the cake... if the truth is to be known he didn't get through all his slice :-)
Then Charlie came home with us for several hours of fun... firstly he started putting the contact details from my iPad into his new iPod then we had lunch, then Charlie taught me how to play Poker and beat me in the first hand, then we played several games of dominoes... then it was time to go home to see what Mummy had been up to...
A perfect Cricket Cake all made by Nerys... Just look at the detail on the cricket ball and bat, wickets and pitch :-) Wonderful stuff!
Now 10 friends are at District 3 for a couple of hours of shoot 'em up games... we were invited but gracefully declined :-)

Photo a Day Challenge - 28.4.2013 - What I wore today.
David bought this for me many years ago and it is lovely to wear but sometimes the catch comes undone so I don't wear it as often as I would like.

She might look a little bit like her but trust me... she isn't our Emily... our Emily is much prettier than this girl.

Pennie cleaned out the fridge and larder once again...
So WHAT is it you ask... Well it's sort of from a recipe called Pastitso!
But...
I didn't have any Macaroni so I used some (years old) Vermicelli that's been sitting in the Larder forever and annoying me! 2 beaten eggs and some Parmesan... this formed the base.
There's been 500 grams of Mince in the freezer for about one year so I dug that out and cooked it up with some garlic then found some old... but not moldy... broccolini and some corn on the cob some dill and some sugar peas which I threw in with some Pizza Tomato Sauce, the last of some white wine and a beef stock jell thing and finally an egg! Just delicious!! This formed the middle then I made the topping of butter, flour, Parmesan and egg yolks!
David really enjoyed his tonight. Job well done Pennie :-)
There are now 6 in the freezer for another day...

The tradition continues down at Newport Beach!
Holding onto the chains as the waves crash over the rock pool wall at Newport Beach is something I did as a child, as my children did and now my Grandchildren are doing it as well... such fun!

IT'S THE SOLDIER.... It's the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It's the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It's the soldier, who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives the protestor the right the burn the flag. __Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC
We think of them often but on Anzac Day we remember them with tears in our hearts.

We all enjoyed 'Underwater Chicken with Wedges' for Dinner last night! Here's the Recipe!
Choose some boneless pieces of 'Underwater Chicken', I usually use a white 'Underwater Chicken' for this Recipe but last night we tried pink.
Cut up some small Desiree or Pontiac Potatoes into wedges and give them a short microwave, then dry them in a clean tea towel.
Now for the Magic!! Open a packet of Tandaco Coating Mix and totally coat all the 'Underwater Chicken' and Wedges then bake in a little Olive Oil in the Oven!
So Delicious we forgot to take a photo of the finished meal... but here is a snap of an almost finished plate!
P.S. My 4 Children reckoned they didn't like Fish... so I served them this 'Underwater Chicken' for several years until Tomos at about 7 years of age said at the dinner table... 'I've never seen an 'Underwater Chicken', I think we're eating FISH!'
The noise of dropping cutlery was deafening until ... he very thoughtfully said... 'But I like it!' LOL This has become one of our family stories and although both boys love both cooked fish and sashimi they know the story and wanted to try some of my very special... 'Underwater Chicken.'
It was declared a WINNER :-)

All I said was 'Lets get a Doggy Bag' ..... Jackson and Charlie's response was just priceless...
This is what I meant at Taxim's Yum Cha today... Food we over ordered and couldn't eat to be taken home... The boys thought a Doggy Bag was one of those bags you pick up dog poo with........ The Chinese waiters were just as amused as I was, very funny but totally understandable when one thinks about it!
A morning that was supposed to be a School Holiday Park Exploration Day... had to be cancelled because of the heavy rain so off to Westfield and the Apple shop to buy Charlie an iPod for his birthday then Yum Cha, then a 30 minutes play at Time Zone before heading home.
