Photo A Day Challenge - 25-3-2015 - Half.

This is the Pepper half of a Salt and Pepper set... pretty old I suppose because I remember using them at my Rodd Grandparents home when I was but a child.
Made in Japan, is this a Japanese Soldier or a British Soldier... I checked some photos on Google and except for the eyes it could be a Japanese Soldier but I can't believe my Grandparents would have owned this if they thought it was a Japanese Soldier, they weren't very fond of Japanese after the War.
Just done a search and can't find anything like this little man...

Photo A Day Challenge - 23.3.2015 - Too Much.

These are some of the books my father Rip wrote about his family, his history and his WW2 Service.    It's a bit too much for me and I'm trying to cut this info down to 3 or 4 pages to go into my book about our family Ancestors who have represented Australia in Wars... I have 26 family members so far, from the Boer War to WW2.

Photo a Day Challenge - 16.3.2015 - After.

This is what you get after buying a packet of Lebanese bread, splitting the rounds into two rounds, buttering the insides of each one, thinly spreading vegemite, then sprinkling grated parmesan cheese all over and baking till crisp.   Seriously yummy!

Photo a Day Challenge - 15.3.2015 - Small.

Here's the story...  Ripley had a good friend in his Regiment who, after WW2 became my Godfather... a lovely man called David.  Now David and his wife Leonie had a boy born a couple of months earlier, in the same year as me... his name is Rodger.

Now... we saw a bit of each other as kids but it wasn't until our family moved back to Sydney after living all around NSW in Army Camps that our families saw more of  each other.

Rodger went to Newington and I was at Queenwood, we were 14 or 15,  some weekends we would meet in the City and go to one of our homes for the weekend... I would go to San Souci and Rodger and I would go sailing, or Rodger would come to Newport and we'd spend the weekend on the beach.   We got on well, it was fun, we loved each others families... it was great.

Then we grew up, left school and went our different ways and although our parents kept in touch we were off doing other things.   Rodgers father died way back in 1962 and I was off on Sheep Stations or Nurses Homes or getting married and traveling overseas then having babies... so we lost touch.

When Rip and Rosie were celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary, Rip got in touch with the family and they came to our home and it was wonderful to see Rodger, his wife, children and his mother and sister.

Soooo.... At the moment,  I am in the middle of writing a book for the family about all our Ancestors who have represented Australia in Wars... I have found 24 men and women and I'm working away trying to get all the details I can about each person... when I thought of my Godfather David!!!!!  I have to put him in my book, he fought alongside my Dad and he was my Godfather, that's almost an ancestor.

How to find the family???   Checked Face Book first, put in Rodger Quiddington, unusual name if he was there I'd be sure to find him... No... but there was a female Quiddington so I sent a message saying who I was and so on... message back the next day!

'Yes he's my Dad!'  and a phone number to contact him.

Well!  Rodger and I spoke on the phone for more than one hour, we laughed, we remembered so much, we joked, we were back in the 1950's remembering our fun weekends...

So... the reason for this Photo a Day Challenge... Small...

When I mentioned 'Newington', the first thing Rodger said was... 'you took my badge!'

And I did, I 'asked' many a boy if I could have their school badge way back when I was 14/15  :-)  So my 'Small' for today is Rodger's Newington Badge.    I have offered to give it back to him...
