Photo a Day Challenge - 1.8.2022 - I am...

Very proudly related to my First and Second Fleet families on my mothers side.

John Cobcroft was involved in Highway Robbery with some of his friends and was sent to Australia on the second fleet.  Sarah Smith, his girlfriend came free they had 10 children and married in their late 70's.
Richard William was their oldest child, he married Mary Ann Cross who's father John aka James Cross stole a 'Wether' (a castrated male sheep) and was sent to Australia on the 'Alexander' in the First Fleet.

John Rodd and this three sons arrived in Sydney on the 'Castle Forbes' on the 16th of April 1822, his wife had died and his family wanted him to go into the church... so to Australia he escaped.  I am related to the youngest of John's three sons.

So... I am Aussie, Aussie, Aussie Oi Oi Oi...

200 Hundred years ago today my Rodd Family arrived in Sydney as free settlers.

John Tremayne Rodd born in Evesham, Worcestershire, England - my 3 X Great Grandfather.  The story goes that his father wanted him to go into the church which is not what he wanted to do so after his wife died John left England with his four children and headed to Australia.  The story goes his daughter Lucy Jane, aged 15 got off the ship in South Africa to marry??  I did find a SA Marriage record between her and Henry Pope then I think she returned to England.
Brent Clements Rodd, my 2X Great Grandfather was 12 years old when arrived in Sydney.  Brent was 29 when he bought the land which is now known as Rodd Point, he also put a deposit of 17 Pounds to buy the Island but this never happened nor did he get his deposit back.  Brent built Barnstable Manor on Rodd Point which was named after where he was born in England.  Many of the street names are named after several Rodd family members.
Clements Tremayne Rodd - my Great Grandfather.

Clements Ripley Rodd, my beautiful Grandfather lived in Haberfield and I remember him very fondly.
Ripley Clements Rodd my beautiful father.
And Penniedarling.

Some of the names of my Aussie Rodd Family are surnames of women the men married... my father and grandfather had 3 Surnames.

Ripley = Anna Marie Ripley married into the Robertson side of the family, a couple of whom married Rodd's.

Clements = Susan Clements was the mother of my 3 x John see above,
