Photo a Day Challenge - 29.7.2023 - My fav word...

This is a tricky one...  I think I have to say my favourite word and a word I'm well known for has to be...

Poopootoshirley

The Story.

My Great Aunt Nancy aka Aunty Cranky, travelled the world a lot during the mid 1950's to early 1960's, she sent many postcards which you can see here...  Postcards from Aunty Cranky.  When she returned home she had so many wonderful stories that I could never get enough of and the one I've never forgotten is when Cranky and my cousin Sue were on the top deck of a double decker bus going down Regent Street in London and they saw a young large woman skipping along and lifting up her skirt up over her head while singing 'PoopootoShirley' 'PoopootoShirley' 'PoopootoShirley'.   We will never know who Shirley was but maybe she was this young woman's Carer?

Photo a Day Challenge - 27.3.2021 - My Fav Word.

Of course my favourite word has to be PoopootoShirley!  I know, I've posted this before but....

 PooPooToShirley

This word came into my families vocab in the late 1950's.  Our Great Aunt Nancy aka Cranky was a great traveller and not only did she send us kids 100's of postcards from all the different countries she visited she would tell us stories of her experiences when she was home in Aus and this one is the best... well in my honest opinion.

Cranky and our cousin Sue were on the top deck of a Double Decker bus driving down Park Lane, London when they saw a youngish rather large woman skipping along singing... PooPooToShirley, PooPooToShirley, PooPooToShirley, PooPooToShirley,

and at the same time lifting her skirts up way above her head.

I've always loved this story and this word has become one of my most common and favourites. The blog I put together of these 320 Postcards has been archived by the National Library https://postcardsfromauntycranky.blogspot.com/

Photo a Day Challenge - 18.10.2017 - One Word.

I heard this word many many years ago and have never forgotten it!  I just love it.

The British Radio Show 'My Word' started in 1956 and finished in 1990, it was always fun!

Denis Norden or Frank Muir were asked this question -
Where does the word Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious come from?

Why, it's just a shopping list, including a remedy for someone with bad breath: "Soup, a cauli, fridge-elastic, eggs, pea - halitosis!
