Photo a Day Challenge - 19.11.2022 - Rocks.

Rocks, Rocks and more Rocks... where to stop, here's David back in 1968 when people were allowed near the Stonehenge Rocks.

Below is Pennie sitting on the edge of the Trevi Fountain in Rome in 1969.

These photos are for Ros who left a comment on my 'Water' post 26.1.2022.

Here is a reply to the question Ros asked... 'Where was Rodd Island?'

Rodd Island is in Sydney Harbour just West of the Iron Cove Bridge and East of Rodd Point.

Our Great-Great Grandfather Brent Clements Rodd settled here in 1838, his land started from the Great North Road to the West,  and Lyons Road to the North and Iron Cove Creek on the South.

All the street names south of Lyons Road to Henley Marine Drive,  the East to Janet Street and to the West to Brent Street are names of our Great Grandparents, Great Uncles and Aunts.

Barnstable Road was the driveway to Barnstable Manor.  Although Brent paid a deposit of about £15 for Rodd Island he never owned it but he and his family did enjoy many a picnic on the Island as do his descendants.

Brent Clements aged 13, arrived in Sydney from the UK with his father and two older brothers in 1822, thats 200 years ago this April.

Here's some old photos.

Barnstable Manor is named after the town they came from in North Devon.  I believe that's Aunt Tiss looking out the upstairs window on the left and Aunt Puss in the middle window.

Yesterday it was a little trip to see some Steam Boats needing repair... then onto Rodd Point for lunch and a little look see...

 Fun at Neild Park.

 Then lunch at the Pavillion.

Rodd Point and Rodd Island way way way in the distance.
Looking back at Neild Park from Rodd Point.
The Rodd Family Crypt on Rodd Point.
Inside the Crypt, the bodies were removed from this Crypt back in 1903 and taken to Rookwood.

 Rodd Island from the Point.

 Kids in Trees...

Yay... a lovely day.

Unfortunately no photos were taken of the Steam Boats at the Fleet!

We enjoyed a little jaunt around Rodd Point then onto the Iron Cove Bridge. Here is a little Rodd Island History.

Today we enjoyed lunch at one of our favourite places, 'Neild Park Pavillion' at Rodd Point and overlooking Rodd Island

Above, Rodd Island viewed from under the Iron Cove Bridge and below view from Googlemaps!

I found all these plaques there as well, very interesting.

I invited David out on a Date! We had lunch at Neild Park Pavillion, Rodd Point... on the land that once belonged to my Rodd Ancestors.

 David's comment on Face Book...
'Really excellent menu and the best coffee I have ever had---- Italian proprietor. Super fritto misto and crispy skin duck with mango salad.'

That Duck dish was absolutely wonderful!  I'm going again,  wanna come with me!!

Rodd Point on the right and Rodd Island in the middle, you can see the little red roofs of the Picnic sheds.

'Barnstable Manor' would have stood behind that house with the red roof just below the edge of that umbrella.

My 2 x Great Grandfather Brent Clements Rodd, born in England, arrived in NSW in 1820 with his two older brothers and his father John, he was 11 years old.  His mother had died before they all left England.

Sarah Janet Robertson, my 2 x Great Grandmother.

Barnstable Manor, nearing the end of it's days.

The paddock where this horse is, is now Neild Park.

This shot below was taken in 1940.  The land surrounding the old Manor house was taken over by the Army during WW2, those are tents below.  Barnstable Manor can just be seen among those trees
in the middle of this photo and in front of the tents.
A google map photo, Neild Park Pavillion is on the far east west corner of the Neild Park, light grey roof.
