These photos are for Ros who left a comment on my 'Water' post 26.1.2022.

Here is a reply to the question Ros asked... 'Where was Rodd Island?'

Rodd Island is in Sydney Harbour just West of the Iron Cove Bridge and East of Rodd Point.

Our Great-Great Grandfather Brent Clements Rodd settled here in 1838, his land started from the Great North Road to the West,  and Lyons Road to the North and Iron Cove Creek on the South.

All the street names south of Lyons Road to Henley Marine Drive,  the East to Janet Street and to the West to Brent Street are names of our Great Grandparents, Great Uncles and Aunts.

Barnstable Road was the driveway to Barnstable Manor.  Although Brent paid a deposit of about £15 for Rodd Island he never owned it but he and his family did enjoy many a picnic on the Island as do his descendants.

Brent Clements aged 13, arrived in Sydney from the UK with his father and two older brothers in 1822, thats 200 years ago this April.

Here's some old photos.

Barnstable Manor is named after the town they came from in North Devon.  I believe that's Aunt Tiss looking out the upstairs window on the left and Aunt Puss in the middle window.
