I've been thinking of those people who have damage to their homes around the Kurnell area and feeling for them... We had a similar storm in our area, with estimated 240 winds, 24 years ago.
Very little damage to our home luckily, we did loose about 9 trees and this fence, a couple of roof tiles were broken but that was all. I was aware of what to do in a Cyclone so rushed around the house closing the windows except for 2 inches at the top of each... still rain poured in even through the windows under the veranda... rain was going sideways... but no windows exploded like they did in many of my friends homes. We watched lots of Pool floaty things and outside chairs Whizzing past the upstairs of our home.
We had no power for 10 days and lovely friends from Hornsby came and took everything out of our freezer and put it into theirs and... our Big Green Bus was still a Caravan so had a gas fridge in it... we did have somewhere to keep the milk cool. The pool went a revolting green and there was hail still piled up after about 24 hours even in the heat! It wasn't fun but we were very lucky, others around us had some very similar damage as those in Kurnell.

Next door.
Around the corner.
Just look at all those broken trees piled up at the tip... trucks worked for weeks clearing these lovely old trees.
Shanda, my sister-in-law, bought me this bowl not long after our storm. It's been made using one of the damaged Flooded Gum trees.
Our Insurance Agent was brilliant! the Assessor was here first thing in the morning and we had money in the bank before we had the electricity back on! Ron, our Tree friend was here the same day sawing up our beautiful fallen trees.
We did forget one thing though... we never looked at the damage the hail did to our front door! We rarely go in or out of this door so it was long after the storm that we noticed it :-) We wear it as a badge of honour now!
Just found this on Wiki...
