This Blog Post is for our friend Ewegene Bevens in Arizonia... these are photos of our sometime 'hangout' back in the early 1960's, a lot different now but still beautiful!
Although it's been 'done up' by Merivale and the name has been changed... it's still the 'Arms' to me!
Right on beautiful Pittwater, I love this old sandbar, we used to live around to the left and I remember rowing from home to the wharf just under the Arms to get something from the shops. I loved it when our dog Peewee came along, I would stop near this sandbar for Peewee to enjoy a run around chasing seagulls! Lovely memories! I'm talking about 1955, I would have been 15.
Lots of dogs enjoyed the seagull chase today.
The Arms is a lot different now to what it was in 'our day'... we remember when Pubs weren't open to the public on Sundays unless you could prove you had driven 30 miles!! How silly is this eh!
Well when some of the boys were up from Wollogorang and staying at David's family home in Calvert Parade we would head off to the Arms on a Sunday getting in easily because the boys each had Goulburn or ACT Drivers Licence... I on the other hand just lived around the corner and even though I knew Timmy Bristow because he lived a couple of houses from us, and he was head of Security for the Arms... he would give me a wink, sit down with us for a chat and was so so so charming never suggesting that I might not have driven 30 miles today.
Read more about Tim Bristow HERE.
Ginger Beer for me and some bubbly for David.
Delicious Prawn Pizza.
There was live music... or a sort...
Salted Caramel Ice Cream to share... not as good at the Penno Pub though.
Rip and Rosie's newsagency is still across the road.
David's Grandfather Dudley built this wonderful home right on Newport Beach back in the 1920's, gosh it's almost 100 years old. We lived here for a few months back in 1971, when we got back from our travels. We stopped and chatted to a couple walking by and they kindly took our photo!
89 Crescent Road, Newport... this used to be where Rip and Rosie lived... not is this house though.
